How many promises have you made to yourself this year?
"I'll start drinking more water."
"I'll start walking."
"I'll stop eating junk food."
"I'll start on Monday."
And then Monday comes.
Nothing changes.
A week later, the same promise.
A month later, the same promise.
A year later, the same promise.
At some point, it's worth asking:
Why do I keep breaking promises to myself?
Imagine a friend told you they were going to meet you for coffee.
They don't show up.
They apologize.
Next week, same thing.
The week after, same thing.
Eventually, you stop believing them.
Not because they're a bad person.
Because their actions don't match their words.
Now imagine you've been doing that to yourself for years.
A lot of people think getting healthy starts with motivation.
I don't think so.
I think it starts with self-respect.
Because when you respect yourself, your actions change.
You drink the water because you said you would.
You go for the walk because you said you would.
You eat the meal you prepared because you said you would.
Not because you feel like it.
Because you keep your word.
This is why I think getting healthy for aesthetics only takes you so far.
Wanting abs is fine.
Wanting to look better is fine.
But eventually motivation fades.
What stays is your relationship with yourself.
Because when you genuinely care about yourself, healthy habits stop feeling like punishment.
Drinking water isn't punishment.
Walking isn't punishment.
Strength training isn't punishment.
Eating whole foods isn't punishment.
They're acts of care.
Think about the basics.
If you truly care about your health:
💧 You drink your water.
🚶 You move your body.
🍽️ You eat foods that support your goals.
Not because someone told you to.
Because you believe you're worth the effort.
And here's the interesting part.
The way you treat yourself always spills into the rest of your life.
If you constantly break promises to yourself, you start trusting yourself less.
You stop believing your own commitments.
You tell yourself you'll start tomorrow.
Then tomorrow becomes next week.
Then next month.
Then next year.
But when you keep small promises to yourself, something changes.
You start building evidence.
Evidence that you can trust yourself.
Evidence that you'll follow through.
Evidence that your word means something.
Even if it's something as simple as drinking 2 litres of water today.
So here's my challenge for you.
Don't focus on losing 20 kilograms.
Don't focus on getting abs.
Don't focus on completely changing your life overnight.
Make one promise.
A small one.
And keep it.
Maybe it's 2 litres of water today.
Maybe it's a 10-minute walk.
Maybe it's eating one meal from your kitchen.
Whatever it is:
Keep the promise.
Because every promise you keep is a vote for the person you're becoming.
And the strongest health transformation doesn't start with weight loss.
It starts with learning to trust yourself again.
